You can link to us either
with a text link or an image. We have provided instructions
below for how to write the URL to link to us. For an
overview of
how
our program works, click here.
One of the best parts of the
Learning Things affiliate program is that you can link directly to
any page or pages on our site! You can direct your links to our home page or
to any item or any category on our site. This allows you to really get
creative with your links. For example, you might
want to link to our home page during the back to school season but then link
directly to our Toys, Games and Hobbies category during the Christmas
season.
Here are some steps
to follow to help you get started creating URL's to link to us.
1. Complete
the Sign-Up Form:
The sign-up form captures all required information for us to
set up your new account. If you already signed up, then you
should have already received an email from us letting you
know your agent name. Normally, we will use your website
name or your company name as your agent name. However, on
the sign-up form you can enter your preferred agent name and
we will assign that name to you if it is available. We have
to register your agent name in our system so please wait
until you receive an email from us before you start setting
up your links to us. As explained below, the agent name
becomes part of the URL used to link to our site. The agent name should be alpha-numeric,
containing only letters or numbers without any other
symbols. Do not include hyphens, periods, under-scores, or
any of the following symbols: <>?/:;[]{}\|!@#$%^&*()_=+.
2. How to
Link to Our Home Page:
Linking to our site is very simple, especially if you are
just linking to our home page. We will assign your agent
name, which is used in the link to identify visitors coming
from your site. After we assign your new agent name, we will
send it to you along with the exact HTML code that you will
need to create your link. You should get that within two
business days.
To link to our home page, use
the following URL just adding your agent name to the end of
it:
<a href="http://www.learningthings.com/go.asp?agent="><font
size=2>Click here to visit Learning Things - The Education
Store where you you'll find great prices on thousands of
educational books, software, science kits, craft sets,
educational toys and more.</a>
For example, if your
agent name is 'bookseller' you would add that word to the
end of the URL so it would appear as follows:
<a href="http://www.learningthings.com/go.asp?agent=bookseller"><font
size=2>Click here to visit Learning Things - The Education
Store where you you'll find great prices on thousands of
educational books, software, science kits, craft sets,
educational toys and more.</a>
If you would like to
use our banner ad, the image files and instructions are
located below. Next to each banner is the size dimensions
and URL for the image source.

NOTE: We use two different
home pages. One is a static .htm page and the other is a
dynamically generated .asp page. When you go on the web and
type in
www.learningthings.com you will go to our static home
page. However, when you use the affiliate URL link which
includes the agent name, you will go to our dynamic home
page, which looks a little different. To receive your
commissions from your sales, you must include your agent
name as shown above and the link will take you to our
dynamic home page.
3. How to
Link to an Item Page:
When linking to an item, you have to know the item code. You
can always find the item code on the page that shows the
full description for the item. The item code is located on
the page that displays the full description of the item, not
the abbreviated description page. The item code is located
near the 'BUY NOW' button. When writing the URL to point to
a specific item code, ic stands for item code. Item codes
are not case sensitive. For example, the URL shown below points to a
specific Lego item but you can
point to any item on our site the same way:
http://www.learningthings.com/go.asp?&ic=LEGO3433&agent=YourAgentName
IMPORTANT NOTE:
If you link directly to an item page, please be advised that
we sometimes have to change some of our item codes. This
does not happen very often but it does happen because our
vendors change the code in their system. If you link to an
item page, your link could get broken if we ever have to
change the item code. While item codes changes occasionally,
category codes almost never change.
4.
How to Link to a Category Page:
When
linking to a category page, you have to know the
category code. The category code is not the same as the
category name. You can find
the category code embedded in the address line of your
web browser when you are viewing the category
page. To get to a category page, enter our site using
your agent link. Then click on any subject from the list of
subjects which appears on the left column on every page.
Then look closely at the address line and
you will see the code looking something like this
example: Cc=TOYS. The code here would be TOYS. (Note: Category codes are not case
sensitive).
For example, if you want to link to our Toys,
Games and Hobbies category, you first must go to our site
and click on the link to that category from the list of
categories displayed on the left side of the screen. After
the category page is displayed, look in the address line for
the code, which is always preceded with Cc=
When you are looking for the category code within the
address line on our site, you will always see the ampersand
symbol (&)
at the end of the category code but it is not part of the
category code. Although the ampersand is not part of the
category code, it is used in the URL to separate the
category code from the agent code. For example, the link to the toy category
would look like this:
http://www.learningthings.com/go.asp?&Cc=TOYS&agent=YourAgentName
IMPORTANT NOTE:
The ampersand is written as the usual text symbol '&' ONLY
IF your html editor translates your text into html for you.
However, if you actually write directly into the html code,
then you should use the html code version of the ampersand
symbol, which is & so it just depends on how you write
your code. If you use Microsoft Frontpage, you can just use
the & symbol in the URL and the software will convert it for
you.
5. Add the URL to
the Hyper-link on Your Site
Once you have a clickable link on your site pointing to the
URLs as explained above, you are all done! It is really that easy
to get started. Scroll up on this page to see banner images available
to you.
