The unique approach of these kindergarten homeschool activity lessons and teacher books has helped make Saxon Phonics a best seller.
The Saxon Phonics K Student Workbooks and Readers provide the student with his or her own set of grade-appropriate practice workbooks and reader materials with which to review the concepts being taught. The set includes a two-part student workbook, a colorful alphabet strip with D'Nealian style letters on one side and block style letters on the other, a complete alphabet set of letter tiles, and student readers.
Saxon Phonics K begins by working with auditory discrimination skills to see if the children are aware of the different sounds of the English language and are ready to learn to read. When they are ready, the teacher begins by teaching the name, sound, and written form of each letter. In order to provide plenty of time for practice, one week is devoted to each letter. When a new letter is taught, students review all previously taught letters, as they do every day, to make sure they have enough exposure to master each letter. After learning three letters, the children begin to blend letters to create words and unblend words to spell. Children are never asked to read or write with sounds they have not been taught. © 1996 (140 lessons). |
