| KENTUCKY HOMESCHOOL LAW Compulsory School Age: 6 - 16 Kentucky state law offers one legal homeschooling option, which is to qualify a homeschool as a private school. Kentucky recognizes homeschools as private schools, and, therefore, parents/guardians must establish a legitimate private school for their children to attend. In addition, the local Board of Education must be notified within two weeks of the start of each school year a parent's intent to educate at home. Children homeschooling under this option are required to attend 185 days of instruction per year. Required subjects include reading, writing, spelling, grammar, history, math, and civics. Records must be kept on attendance and scholarship reports. No statutes concerning minimum parent/teacher qualifications exist. Find a homeschool group in Kentucky.
