NEBRASKA HOMESCHOOL LAW
Compulsory
School Age: 6 - 18
Nebraska
state law offers one legal homeschooling option, which is to establish
and operate a homeschool as a private school. In Nebraska,
homeschools are considered private schools but are also referred to as
exempt schools by the Department of Education. Parents wishing to
school their children under this option must file for exemption with the
State Commissioner of Education by August 1 of each year (or 30 days
before starting homeschool). Attendance is required for 1032 hours
per year for students in elementary grades and for 1080 hours per year
for students in high school grades. Language arts, math, science,
social studies, and health are required subjects. Teacher
qualifications are unspecified "unless the teacher is 'employed' by the
family." There are no regulations requiring recordkeeping or
testing.
