MASSACHUSETTS HOMESCHOOL LAW
Compulsory
School Age: 6 - 16 (by December 31)
Massachusetts
state law offers one legal homeschooling option, which is to
establish and operate a state-approved homeschool. Children
schooling under this option are expected (not required) to attend 900
hours of instruction during elementary grades and 990 hours of
instruction during secondary levels. Required subjects include
reading, writing, English language and grammar, geography, math,
drawing, music, history, U.S. Constitution, citizenship, health
(including CPR), physical education, and good behavior. Testing is
not required by state law, but may be considered during the approval
process. There are no regulations requiring parent/teacher
qualifications or recordkeeping for this option.
