The most common fear we hear from
parents who are considering home schooling for the first
time is "I just don't know if I am qualified enough to do
this."
When we hear
this, we always encourage parents by telling them they can
do it. The facts show homeschool parents are doing a great
job. Based on years of scores on standardized tests, home
school students consistently outperform the national average
by a large margin. In fact, homeschool students average test
scores are in the 83rd percentile (where the 50th percentile
represents the national average). Unfortunately for those
who oppose home schooling, the facts are not on their side.
While the legal requirements
are different in every state, there are some general
guidelines that can help you get started in any state. Here are some great sources for
more information on how to get started home schooling. |

If you want your child to go to
college, you might want to start keeping records for the
course work completed at home. Many colleges and
universities have become very friendly to homeschoolers and
have developed ways to work around the lack of transcripts.
However, there are also many colleges and universities that
require school credits and an accredited high school
diploma.
Learning Things - The Education Store can provide you with the
curriculums and materials which can
be used to qualify for credit in any state. However, Learning
Things - The Education Store does not provide you with verification or any records
showing that your student has completed these
materials. For that, you would need to hire a record keeping
service.
Unfortunately, keeping your own records is not acceptable.
If you want to get school credit
for homeschool work, you have to hire a service authorized by
the state to give credit. Since requirements vary from state to state, we
recommend using a service located within your state.
These services
are authorized by the state to keep records of your activities
and award your children with credits. To find a service in
your area, we recommend contacting any of the sources listed
above.
