McGuffey Readers: In 19th century American education the McGuffey readers were the accepted standard for teaching reading. They are still popular today, especially as a homeschool reading curriculum. Designed to be efficient and economical, these hardcover books contain lessons in reading and literature as well as instruction in spelling and grammar. The stories in the readers promote traditional values by featuring children who love God and enjoy learning. There are four McGuffey Reader textbooks available for grades 2-12. Each reader is accompanied by a set of four quarterly workbooks. The workbooks guide students through the lessons and reading assignments in the reader textbook. The workbooks provide clear daily lessons, regular reviews, quizzes, and a pull out section containing a comprehensive test of mastery for that workbook as well as answers for all assignments, quizzes and tests.
