Kids Science Kit
A kids science kit is a great way to jump start any science project because it pulls together all of the items needed, plus provides ideas and step by step instructions. Here are a few tips to keep in mind to help you make a great selection.
Does your student have any science experience? Some kits out there are easy beginner sets, others are more advanced. There are some really cute kids science kits for young beginning scientists, such as “Fun with your Dog.”
For the experienced science student, look for a science kit that contains equipment for serious experimentation, like a chemistry set with equipment for somewhat more advanced science project such as extracting DNA, simple electrochemical reactions, or identifying the components of chemical substances by flame test.
Think about safety, too. Prepackaged kids science kits are normally very safe, but take note of recommended ages. If the science kits you are looking at state that they are recommended for students 12 and older, chances are there is a good reason for that.
Think of the child’s interests and choose something fun and exciting! If she likes flowers, a butterfly kit science project might be fun for her. If he’s always tumbling with the dog, he might like the Science “Fun with Your Dog” kit. If he’s fascinated by detail and very curious, maybe a kids science kit with a microscope set would be the way to go.
Don’t forget astronomy! Almost everyone is inspired by the sight of a vast star-studded night sky. With a quality telescope, home planetarium or a star guide, your budding astronomer will be able to start a science project to observe rare stellar phenomena, Saturn’s moons, Mars’ red glow, or special features of the moon’s surface.
