Virginia Homeschool Groups and VA Homeschooling Support

 

Getting connected to the information you need and to other experienced homeschool parents can help build confidence for new homeschool parents. Since homeschool laws vary from state to state, we recommend contacting a homeschool group within your state. The links below provide you with some support groups in Virginia. Visit their websites or contact them for information. You can also see more details about Virginia homeschool laws.

Another great source for information is your local school district office. With the increased popularity of homeschooling across Virginia , it has become more common for the district superintendent to designate a staff member to assist homeschooling parents.

You can find more homeschool support under our 'Support' tab at the top of this page, including our free product catalog and free online learning sites for all core subjects. To find homeschool curriculum books and materials, just hold the mouse over the 'Shopping' tab. There you can shop by subject, by grade level, by brand and by product type.

Albemarle Christian Teaching Support (ACTS)
ACTS is an educational organization designed to provide support and enrichment for home educating families. ACTS classes provide supplemental educational experiences on a weekly basis to enrich and expand the educational plan the home-educating family has for their students. (For example:  The parent teaches Apologia Biology curriculum at home; the ACTS Biology class provides the required lab and associated activities in a group setting to supplement this curriculum choice.
Central Virginia Home Educators (CVHE)
CVHE.net is here to provide a network for Located in central Virginia. We provide information, seminars and workshops, an annual read-a-thon, monthly moms night out, and website. Contact: Sherry (434) 237-6031 on Tuesdays from 1-7pm.
Classical Conversations
This classical Christian community provides leadership in the home-centered education movement by equipping parents and students with the classical tools of learning needed to discover the order and beauty of God’s creation and to inspire others to do the same.
CHESS Classes
Located in Centreville, VA, CHESS supports homeschooling parents of seventh through twelfth grade students by providing classes to develop life skills and prepare students for college-level studies. These small-group classes are designed to supplement and enrich the homeschool, providing personal, advanced education to students. Classes meet one or two days a week for teaching, science labs, and/or group discussions. CHESS welcomes all homeschooling families. Classes are taught from a Judeo-Christian perspective.

Guiding Our Children Home Alliance
Our mission is to provide homeschoolers an opportunity to meet, exchange ideas and support, and exhibit the best work and projects of children and families in a congenial atmosphere. The group is inclusive and strives to provide support for homeschoolers of all ages and learning styles.
Harvester Teaching Services
Harvester Teaching Services (HTS) provides practical assistance to parents who desire to train their children to live Biblically in an anti-Christian world.  This assistance is extended to parents whose children are in public or Christian schools, or who home school.  For more information, or if you have home school and HTS questions, please call (703)455-7800 or email the Administrator, Corinne Hayes at htsadmin@harvesterpca.org.
Home Educators Are Restoring Their Heritage (HEARTH)
Located in northern Virginia, HEARTH is a homeschool support group designed to provide encouragement to parents. Our orientation is Christian, guided by God's Word, the Bible.
Home-Ed Center (HEC)
The Home-Ed Center (HEC) is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) community organization that seeks to support and encourage excellence in home education in Loudoun County and the surrounding area by creating and maintaining a Home-School Community Center with facilities and programs devoted to homeschoolers and their educational and extracurricular needs. The Home-Ed Center is, at its core, a Christian organization that seeks to serve the broad community of homeschoolers regardless of their religious beliefs or educational approaches.
Home Educators Association of Virginia (HEAV)
The oldest and largest statewide organization in Virginia, HEAV is celebrating 25 years of serving homeschoolers through information, legislation, and resources.
Homeschool Plus
Based in Norfolk, VA, Homeschool Plus seeks to encourage you in your commitment to provide the best possible Christian education for your children through homeschooling. We try to listen to the needs expressed by homeschoolers and offer a wide variety of activities and services to help meet those needs. The Ingleside classes generally meet once a week and are designed to be an exciting supplement to your own curriculum
McLean Homeschool Group
Our mission is to provide support services to Christian homeschooling families who are interested in educating their children with rigorous academic studies and nurturing the development of Christian character traits.
Richmond Enrichment Studio (RES)
RES provides space for homeschool programs and activities. RES also hosts events throughout the year specifically designed to serve our homeschooler community.  In addition, RES offers both academic and enrichment class opportunities for all ages.
Right At Home
Right at Home has been a support group in Western Loudoun County (Virginia) since 1990.  We serve to connect home schoolers for field trips, classes, Moms' Night Out, Park Days, etc.  We also offer adjunct classes in support of your home education efforts.
South of the James Homeschoolers (SOTJ)
SOTJ is a circle of families who have chosen to homeschool. SOTJ offers a network of support while providing educational and social opportunities for children and their parents. SOTJ is composed of families with diverse backgrounds, experiences, beliefs and educational approaches. Although most of our activities occur in and around Chesterfield County and the city of Richmond, SOTJ has members from all over the Richmond  - north and south of the James. 
Southside Area Home Educators (SAHE)
SAHE is a Christian based group. Our  desire is to please the Lord in all we do. We're hoping to bring homeschooling support and encouragement to those seeking to do God’s will in their families.

Southside Homeschool Co-op
Located in Powhatan, VA, Southside Homeschool Co-op provides middle and high school level classes designed to supplement the parent-directed education of home-educated children. Christianity and the Bible are the foundation on which our principles are based; however, we include students and parents from diverse social, economic, and religious backgrounds.

SpringTree Home School Support Group
SpringTree Homeschool Support Group is a home education support group dedicated to supporting all home educating families regardless of religious beliefs or affiliations.  We serve families throughout Northern Virginia, DC, and Southern Maryland.  Our members represent varied styles of homeschooling, ranging from the highly structured/school-at-home to the eclectic to the student led/unschooled.
Tidewater Educators Association for Christian Homeschooling (TEACH)
TEACH is a regional homeschool support group, serving southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. We are a tax-exempt, non-profit Virginia corporation.
Tri-Cities Home Educators (TCHE)
TCHE has been located in the Tri-Cities area of Central Virginia since 1991. We represent the areas of Colonial Heights, Petersburg, Hopewell, and Fort Lee and the counties of Chesterfield, Prince George, Dinwiddie, Brunswick, Sussex, Amelia, Henrico, and others. We have a current membership of 250 families uniting together to offer support and activities to one another. We are a Biblical based support group and try to honor God with our activities and teaching.
VaHomeschoolers
VaHomeschoolers appreciates that homeschoolers are diverse in their beliefs and backgrounds, but united in loving our children, valuing their education, and treasuring our freedom to homeschool. For this reason, VaHomeschoolers is an inclusive organization and is neutral in matters of politics and religion.
Winchester Area Homeschoolers Association (WAHA)
This is a voluntary support group for homeschooling families and those interested in homeschooling in and around the Winchester, Virginia and Northern Shenandoah Valley area.
