ABOUT BLUE'S CLUES: That sound you hear is the cheering of 3-year-olds everywhere. For those unfamiliar with Blue's Clues, let's just say it has been an institution among preschoolers - not to mention their parents - since it premiered in 1996. In each episode live-action host Joe (Donovan Patton) invites young viewers into his cartoon world to help him and animated puppy Blue find the clues necessary to solve a puzzle.
The series' unique play-along approach has been shown to help preschoolers develop important cognitive and problem-solving skills, largely by making them active participants. It's also turned Blue's Clues into one of Nickelodeon's most successful, groundbreaking franchises.
"We always pushed the envelope in learning," explains Traci Paige Johnson, the program's co-creator and executive producer. "We research at every stage to make sure kids understand the storyline, and that the games are working to elicit learning and interaction.
"Looking back, I'm proud that we've raised the bar of what preschool programming can and should be," says Johnson, herself a mother of two. "You know that classic book 'All I Really Needed to Know I Learned in Kindergarten?' We like to say 'All you need to know for Kindergarten you learned on Blue's Clues.'"
