Text written at a 5th to 6th grade reading level makes Steck Vaughn American history an easy curriculum for remedial readers.
America's Story for remedial readers breaks through reading barriers! Text written at a 3rd to 4th grade reading level makes American history easy for struggling readers to grasp. America's Story is a complete year history curriculum which includes 43 chapters covering American history from the Native American Indians until today. Extensive review questions at the end of each chapter. This text begins in the year 1492 with Christopher Columbus arriving in America. It ends with a look at America in the 1990's. Recommended for students in grades 3 and up.
Chapter content is kept short, 3 to 4 pages, to help young learners stay involved. Each of the 43 chapters provides a highlight of several key things to think about and several new vocabulary words introduced in that chapter. Students are required to keep a journal notebook in which they will complete various writing assignments at the end of each chapter. The following exercises are provided at the end of each chapter:
- Read and Remember - a fill in the blank exercise
- Think and Apply - a critical thinking assignment
- Riddle Puzzle - a fill in the blank exercise
- Journal Writing - Students write 4 to 6 sentences in their journal.
Full color illustrations and photographs on almost every page help bring history to life again. Unit titles are listed below to show the content covered.
