Explode the Code phonics lesson plans provide beginning readers with experience recognizing and combining phonetic sounds in order to read words, phrases, sentences, and stories. The 1st grade set includes student books, teacher guides and illustrated code cards. Details on the contents of these materials are as follows:
- Books 3 and 3 1/2 introduce one-syllable words ending in a long vowel, including y; silent e words; digraphs sh, th, wh, ch, ng, ck; trigraph tch; dipthongs ee-ea, ai-ay, oa-ow .
