WORDLY WISE 3000 OVERVIEW
For primary-grade students, the Wordly Wise 3000 A, B, C series helps them improve their vocabulary by 300 new words through interesting and enjoyable exercises. As they read the words in context, apply their meanings to different situations, and respond to reading comprehension questions in sentences, the students make the words their own.
Each lesson focuses on 10 words (with 8 lessons in Book A, 10 lessons in Book B, and 12 lessons in Book C). Words are defined with sentence definitions in the first 2 books and then with parts of speech and dictionary-style definitions in Book C, allowing an easy transition to Wordly Wise 3000, Book 1. There are sample sentences for all words and illustrative drawings.
The exercises give students practice in recognizing the words and their meanings in different contexts. In addition to asking students to match the words with their definitions, the exercises include identifying categories and applying the meanings of the words. With each book, the exercises increase in difficulty and number so that the transition to Wordly Wise 3000, Book 1 is smooth.
As with all the other books in the series, the vocabulary words for each lesson are used in a narrative, followed by a series of reading comprehension questions. Students are asked to find and interpret details as well as to express their opinion about aspects of the story. They write their answers in sentences.
Wordly Wise 3000 Books A, B, and C include the popular Wordly Wise sections, which give interesting details about selected vocabulary words. Hidden-message and crossword puzzles are used in each of the books to provide an entertaining way to review the words. All 3 books have an answer key.
Teachers will find the Wordly Wise 3000 A, B, C series an excellent way to help their beginning readers build their reading vocabularies at the same time that they strengthen their reading, critical thinking, and writing skills.
