WORDLY WISE OVERVIEW
Each lesson in Books A, B, and C begins with a Word List of 8-12 words, followed by clear, brief definitions and sentences that illustrate the meaning of the word in context. Although some of the words may appear familiar to students, one of the objectives of this series is to help bridge the gap between students' thinking they know what a word means and actually being able to put the meaning into words.
Books B and C often present more than one meaning of a word. Throughout the 3 books, drawings illustrate the meanings.
Following the word list definitions in Books A, B, and C are:
a true/false exercise: the answers are given in scrambled order at the bottom of the page
a Hidden Message exercise: the students are given a definition, and they must fill in the adjacent puzzle boxes with the correct vocabulary word When completed, the puzzle contains the answer to a riddle
Book C contains an additional exercise that requires the student to rewrite a sentence using a vocabulary word in place of an underlined phrase. Each lesson concludes with a crossword puzzle. At the beginning of each book, a comprehensive, alphabetized word list indicates by lesson the location of each word.
Tests are available for each book in the series. |
